2.007 Design and Manufacturing I is an undergraduate class in the Department of Mechanical Engineering that develops students’ competence and self-confidence as design engineers. It emphasizes the creative design process and the application of physical laws.
As is the tradition, the class will end in a final robot competition, in which students compete against each other to see whose robot can win the most total points. Each student is required to enter the competition, but in the end only 16 to 20 finalists will enter the ring on Thursday, May 10 and 11, 2017.
This year’s competition theme is "May the torque be with you". Using a universal kit of tools and materials, students have been challenged to build a robot that can navigate a game board resembling the Starwars X-wing fighter. They will each develop their own strategy for gaining points, and the student whose robot earns the most points at the end of each duel will progress to the next round until there is only one champion left standing.
